
Prof. QI Pengfei, male, Han ethnicity, member of the Communist Party of China (CPC). He was born in August, 1964 in Bayannur League, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, with his ancestral home in Haicheng, Liaoning Province. Prof. QI is currently serving as a standing member as well as the Vice Chairman of the University Council of Renmin University of China (RUC)
Prof. QI received a Bachelor of History degree from Nankai University in 1985, a Master’s degree in Law from RUC in 1988, and a Doctoral degree in Law from RUC in 2003.
Since 1988, Prof. QI has been teaching and doing research at RUC, successively at the Department of the History of Chinese Communist Party and the School of Marxism Studies. Currently, Prof. QI is a professor and Ph.D. supervisor at the School of Marxism Studies of RUC. He teaches undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral students’ courses on CPC History, Contemporary Chinese History and Research on the Fundamental Issues of Modern Chinese History. Besides, he offers public elective courses on ideological and political theories for students of all majors at RUC. Prof. QI has edited many textbooks, including: Analyses of Difficult Problems in the Outline of Modern Chinese History, The History of People’s Republic of China, The Tutorial of the History of People’s Republic of China, etc. He has won over 10 awards at various levels for excellent teaching achievements, including the first prize of Beijing Education and Teaching Achievement Award (for Higher Education) and the Beijing Higher Education Quality Textbook Award.
Prof. QI’s main research areas include: CPC’s ruling history, the history of contemporary Chinese diplomacy, issues related to contemporary China’s national reunification and homeland security, the theory and practice of “One Country, Two Systems”, studies on the theory and practice of the United Front, etc. He has conducted more than 10 national and provincial research projects, such as “Research on CPC’s Theory and Practice of Realizing and Maintaining New China’s National Reunification and Homeland Security”, “Research on the Successful Practice and Historical Experience of ‘One Country, Two Systems’ in Hong Kong and Macao”, “Research on the Basic Historical Experience of the Six Decades since the Founding of the People’s Republic of China”, and “Research on Xi Jinping’s Important Thoughts on Upholding ‘One Country, Two Systems’ and Promoting National Reunification in the New Era”.
Prof. QI has published around 20 academic works, including Deng Xiaoping and the Return of Hong Kong, Territory of a Great Nation: A Review of Contemporary China’s Land Boundary Issues, A Brief History of New China’s Diplomacy, and Research on the Successful Practice and Historical Experience of “One Country, Two Systems” in Hong Kong and Macao. He has also published over 200 academic papers. As a result, Prof. QI has won over 10 awards for his scientific research achievements, including the first prize of Outstanding Young Teachers (by the Fok Ying-Tong Education Foundation), the first prize of National Excellent Papers on the History of Communist Party of China (by the Chinese Society of History of Communist Party of China), and the second prize of Beijing Philosophy and Social Sciences Excellent Achievement Award.
Prof. QI held the following posts in RUC: Deputy Director of the Department of Chinese Communist Party History, Associate Dean of the School of Marxism Studies, Chief Editor of Teaching and Research, Director of the United Front Work Office, Head of the Publicity Office, Executive Deputy Director of the United Front Work Office, and Executive Deputy Director of the Senior Personnel Office. He is currently a standing member and Vice Chairman of the University Council of RUC, member of the RUC University Affairs Committee, member of the RUC Party Committee, and Vice Chairman of the Permanent Presidium of the Faculty Representative Assembly.
Prof. QI holds the following social and academic positions: member of Beijing Municipal Committee of the CPPCC(the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference), member and Secretary General of the National Advisory Committee on Teaching Marxist Theory in Higher Education under the Ministry of Education, Vice Chairman of the Chinese Association of Hong Kong & Macao Studies, member of the China United Front Theory Research Association, member of the National Society of Taiwan Studies, member of the Association for Relations across the Taiwan Straits, member of The Association of National History of the People’s Republic of China, amongst others.
Prof. QI is one of the first candidates in Beijing’s “One Hundred Talents Project” as a “New Century” outstanding talent focusing on theoretical studies, one of the first candidates in the “Four-Group Talent Project” of Beijing’s publicity and culture system, and a candidate for the “New Century Excellent Talent Support Program” of the Ministry of Education. In addition, he is an expert who has been awarded the State Council Special Allowance.
