On March 4th, the High-Level Forum on Discipline Construction of Area Studies, International Communication and Foreign Languages and the Forum for Young Scholars Majoring in Foreign Languages were successfully held by School of Foreign Languages in the Guoxue Building, Renmin University of China. In order to adapt to the new situation of discipline construction, respond to the challenges of the “great changes in the world unseen in a century” and build “new liberal arts”, the forum serves as a platform to promote the construction of an independent knowledge system of foreign language discipline, and make due contribution to the university’s new road of building a world-class university with Chinese characteristics. The Young Scholars Forum is an academic platform for young scholars at home and abroad to exchange views on building first-class disciplines.
Du Peng, Vice President of Renmin University of China, attended the forum and delivered the opening speech. Huang Youyi, former Deputy Director and Editor-in-Chief of China International Literature Press, Ning Qi, Vice President of Peking University, Sun Youzhong, Vice President of Beijing Foreign Studies University, and Zha Mingjian, Vice President of Shanghai International Studies University, attended the forum online and onsite, joint by more than ten well-known experts and scholars from prestigious universities.
On the afternoon of March 4th, the Forum for Young Scholars Majoring in Foreign Languages was held in the Mingde International Building. Over ten young scholars from home and abroad participated in the forum. Professor Wang Jianhua, Deputy Dean of School of Foreign Languages, Professor Zhou Ming, Deputy Dean of School of Foreign Languages, Professor Zhu Yuan, Director of MTI Center , Professor Niu Yunping, Deputy Director of MTI Center, Professor Yang Min from English Department, Professor Liu Haiqing, Director of French Department, Associate Professor Xu Yuan, Deputy Director of Japanese Department and other teachers made comments to join the speakers and discuss the academic frontier topics and hot issues.
With a warm atmosphere and expected response from teachers and students, the forum has stimulated the creativity and inspiration of the discipline construction among teachers and students, enlightened their thoughts and enhanced exchanges and mutual understanding. It will also help gather the wisdom of foreign language talents and build a bright academic future together.
