The opening ceremony of the public lecture series “Global Governance: From Secondary School Classrooms to International Organizations” was held at The High School Affiliated to Renmin University of China (RDFZ), on the afternoon of February 24. Lin Shangli, President of RUC, and Li Genxin, former Director of the Legal and External Relations Division of the United Nations Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization, attended the opening ceremony and gave speeches. Wang Yi, Vice President of RUC, presented appointment letters to teacher representatives.

In his speech, Lin Shangli emphasized that the course’s main objective is to cultivate talents for global governance. He hoped that with the communication, interaction and mutual feedback between teachers and students, the course can establish itself as a “quality brand”, leading students to broaden their horizons, acquire humanistic thoughts, and bear the world in their mind.

Lin Shangli wished that students would learn the basic theories and methods of operation for international organizations, develop an aspiration to participate in global governance and serve all mankind, while conveying the voice of China on the global stage.

Teacher representative Li Genxi pointed out that the course was not only an innovation for educating international talents, but also an innovation for cultivating global vision in primary and secondary school students. He hoped that students would develop the aspiration to contribute Chinese wisdom to the world, and to participate in building a community with a shared future for mankind.

Student representative Liu Hanyuan said that as high school students in the new era, they must have the ambition to participate in global governance and serve all mankind, while acquiring global vision and competence by concrete practice, so that they can spread China’s voice, theories and ideas on the world stage, and contribute to building a community with a shared future for mankind and a new form of human civilization.

Xue Yuxue, former UNDP official, Lu Yanting, Director of the External Relations Department of SUNRA, Liu Xiaohui, Principal of RDFZ, Zheng Ruifang, Principal of the Primary School Affiliated to RUC, and other faculty members attended the meeting.
