More than 80 international students from 35 countries visited the Huanghuacheng Lakeside Great Wall on February 26, learning ancient Chinese history and culture along the way. This is one of a series of cultural research activities for Renmin University of China(RUC) international students, themed “Mutual Learning Between Civilizations and Practicing in China”.
The Great Wall is one of the seven wonders of the medieval world, embodying the wisdom and painstaking efforts of countless ancient Chinese people. The Huanghuacheng Lakeside Great Wall is located in Huairou District, which integrates mountains, rivers, and the ancient Great Wall. The section of the road that the international students visited this time was built during the Ming Dynasty, which is the essence of the Great Wall of the Ming Dynasty.
Climbing the steep Great Wall is not easy or comfortable. Students from all over the world cheered each other on and took many photos with smiles.
Visiting the resort in person allowed the international students of RUC to deeply understand the spiritual connotation of Chinese civilization condensed in the Great Wall, learn ancient Chinese history and culture along the way, and truly realize the profound meaning of “One who fails to reach the Great Wall is not a hero”.
One who fails to reach the Great Wall is not a hero. Great Wall, long time no see! I am very happy that so many foreign students who love Chinese culture are visiting the Great Wall together today, and I am one of them! Thanks to RUC for providing such a good opportunity for us to learn Chinese culture in such a beautiful place.
——Davletshina Kristina, Russian, Master’s student of the School of Business
This is my first time in China and my first time coming to the Great Wall. I think this is truly magnificent and nature is even nicer around here. I’d like to come here later from other parts of the world.
——Mocnik Rostja, Slovenian, student of the School of Literature
I feel happy to share this event with all participants. The historical Great Wall just reflects how Great China is. Thanks to RUC for holding such a great event!
——Toure Moustapha, Senegalese, Master’s student of the School of Economics
The trip promoted mutual trust among students from various countries and deepened international students’ understanding of Chinese culture. More cultural research activities will be held this semester, focusing on themes such as culture, history, and economy, so that students can get involved in practice and understand China better!
