Renmin Law School was established on 3 October, 1950. It can be traced back to the School of Law in Shanbei Public School. Then based on that, North-East Associated University established the Department of Law and Politics. Both of them are the predecessors of Renmin Law School.

Renmin Law School ranks first in the four rounds of discipline evaluation by the Ministry of Education. In 2017, it rated as A + . In 2018, it was again rated as A + in major degree, making it the only law school in China to receive two A + .

Renmin Law School has a qualified faculty team with reasonable age structure. There are not only senior jurists with high reputation at home and abroad, but also a large number of influential young and middle-aged jurists. Since 1950, Renmin University of China (RUC) has cultivated more than 300,000 judges, prosecutors, lawyers, teachers and civil servants. Part of them are outstanding promoters and have played an exemplary role in the rule of law in China.

The school has actively participated in  major legislative works, such as Civil Code, Amendment to Criminal Procedure Law, Rural Land Contracting, Law on Personal Information Protection, Amendment to Copyright Law, Amendment to Patent Law, Law on Minor Protection and so on. Civil Code of the People’s Republic of China was adopted at the third session of the 13th National People’s Congress. Research team from RUC had devoted to the compilation as a major force in the academic community.

RUC has made new progress in international exchanges and cooperation.  Varied forums for mutual learning have held, such as Sino-US Law School Deans’ Forum: Joint Conference of China-Europe Law School Deans, and Deans’ Forum of Asian law schools. It has always cooperated closely with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), and the European Court of Human Rights. In RUC, there are 14 teachers serving as heads in international academic organizations such as the International Association of Constitutional Law, the International Association of Penal Law and the World Tort Law Society.

Along with the development of the rule of law in China, Renmin Law School bases on China’s reality to tackle the real problems in practice while equipping itself with a global mind-set. As the yardstick of law education in China, it will continue to forge ahead as pioneer and contributor in building the rule of law in China.
