Students from University of Geneva Confucius Institute Achieved Good Results in “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Competition Swiss Division preliminary

On June 25th, 2022, the 21st “Chinese Bridge” World University Students Chinese Competition was successfully held in Switzerland, sponsored by the Chinese Embassy in Switzerland and co-organized by Confucius Institute at the University of Geneva. Alissa Noel and Josefine Reimer Lynggaard, from the Confucius Institute at the University of Geneva, won the Champion and Runner-up respectively.

The theme of this year’s competition is “We are the World” and “Pursue Dreams in Chinese, Live up to our youth”. The contestants impressed the judges and the audience by telling stories about their experiences with China and the Chinese language. Calligraphy, Chinese painting, poetry recitation and other forms of talent shows won everyone’s applause.

Wang Shiting, Chinese Ambassador to the Swiss Confederation, and Hou Jian, Counsellor of the Ministry of Culture, Education and Science attended the activity. Wang believes that with the continuous development of China-Switzerland relations, the trend of Chinese learning in Switzerland will be even stronger. Wang encouraged the Chinese learners and lovers of Chinese culture in Switzerland promote cultural exchange and friendly communication between Chinese and Switzerland, contributing to the continuous development of China-Switzerland relations.

Franziska Huber from the Department of Sinology of the University of Zurich and Claudia Berger from the Department of Sinology of the University of Geneva were judges of this year’s competition. They believed that contestants’ excellent Chinese language skills, outstanding talent shows and deep understanding of Chinese society and culture were the epitome of the rapid development of Chinese teaching in Switzerland in recent years.

The Confucius Institute at the University of Geneva is also the first Confucius Institute in Switzerland to integrate Chinese courses into the university credit course system. In recent years, the Confucius Institute at the University of Geneva has produced nine “Chinese Bridge” Champions in Switzerland.
