On September 16th local time, University of Costa Rica’s Confucius Institute and China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) worked together to start the first Chinese basics class in the Limón Province of Costa Rica. The first class of students were the workers at CHEC in Costa Rica. This class was set up in order to strengthen the cultural communication and understanding between the workers.

At the opening ceremony of the first Chinese class, Manager Wu Hong welcomed all students and told them the class rules.

Bai Make, the first local teacher to receive a Chinese Teaching Masters degree, taught workers about Chinese traditional foods and culture to get everyone more interested.

Mr. Bai also knows exactly how foreigners should learn Chinese Pinyin so the workers had no problem learning it. Three hours of Chinese teaching went by in a flash, and the Confucius Institute hopes to work with more companies to help more people in Costa Rica learn about Chinese and Chinese culture.
