University of Massachusetts Boston Vice President and delegation visit RUC

On December 8th, University of Massachusetts Boston (UMass Boston) Cheryl Nixson and delegation visited RUC and met with RUC Vice President DU Peng. This visit signifies the next steps of cooperation between the two universities. Confucius Institute at UMass Boston Foreign Affairs Director SUN Baifeng and Chinese language teacher WANG Shuhong accompanied the visit.

VP DU Peng extended his thanks to Boston University for their years of support in the building and development of Confucius Institute, and hoped that both universities can expand their academic exchanges and cooperation. DU Peng emphasized that both universities in the future cooperation needs to rely on the other’s leadership and support to move forward and hopes that through Confucius Institute, this platform can foster more faculty exchange and personnel training on both sides, while at the same time promote the development of student exchange programs between the two schools.

UMass Boston VP Cheryl Nixson echoed similar views, articulating the importance of building student exchange programs between the universities, as well as praising the Confucius Institute teachers and volunteers at the two schools for their hard work, and recognized the contributions that both sides had made towards building the Confucius Institute. She applauded both RUC and Boston University for developing student and teacher exchange programs between the two universities in linguistics and gerontology, and hoped that they could expand and create new joint programs in other complementary programs. At the same time, she expressed that they hope to act as a bridge between RUC and other U.S. universities for exchanges and cooperation.

Foreign Languages University JIA Guodong, School of Literature and Chinese Languages Research Assistant for International Promotion ZHANG Qing, and RUC International LIN Yuan and YAN Ni also were in attendance.

The Confucius Institute at University of Massachusetts Boston was established in 2006, was home to America’s sixth Confucius Institute. UMass Boston Confucius Institute was jointly built by RUC and other universities in Massachusetts, and was the first to be built jointly by foreign institutes. It facilitates rich, cultural exchange between the U.S. and China in collaboration with educational counterparts in Beijing. The Confucius Institute has become a resource center for Chinese language and culture as well as a platform for the communications and exchanges between the U.S. and China since it was established in 2006 with two prestigious partners from China: Renmin University of China and the High School Affiliated to Renmin University of China.
