Finland’s University of Helsinki Vice President visits RUC

On December 5, RUC VP DU Peng met with visiting University of Helsinki Vice President Jouko Vaananen, Continuing Education Center Executive Director Marjaana Suutarinen, and International Education Managing Director Kirsi Kettula, along with their delegation. The two sides discussed key disciplines and student graduations at both schools.

DU Peng congratulated University of Helsinki Vice President Jouko Vaananen and introduced RUC’s overseas establishment of 12 Confucius Institutes, among which the Confucius Institute at University of Helsinki has been established for 10 years, and has already garnered much success in promoting Chinese culture and setting up Chinese language courses. On behalf of RUC, DU Peng thanked University of Helsinki for their work and support.

University of Helsinki Vice President Jouko Vaananen affirmed their work, and introduced the current developments and cooperation between the two schools. He hopes that Confucius Institute can be a multi-development platform that can allow for many new avenues of academic exchange and cooperation.

RUC International Deputy Director LV Jie accompanied the visit.

From 2011, RUC has selected 32 students to study at University of Helsinki, and has received 20 students for student exchanges. Both universities have cooperation in the School of Law, School of Business, School of Fine Arts, School of International Relations, and are developing new programs in other disciplines. University of Helsinki is also one of the partner institutions actively participating in the short-term summer programs of Renmin University of China. Since 2009, a total of 78 students from the University of Helsinki have participated in the international short-term programs of Renmin University of China. From May to June 2017, Renmin University of China hosted 100 Finnish students during their visit to China. The project was put forward by Vice Premier LIU Yandong on the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Finland. The aim is to educate Finnish students about Sino-Finnish relations, strengthen exchanges between youth, and promote cooperation between the two countries in the field of culture and education.
